Excavator Jack
A Long Journey For Excavator Jack
When Jukka Mutanen, aka Excavator Jack, joked that he would travel from Hanko in the south of Finland to Kuusamo in a mini excavator if he got 50,000 fans on his Facebook page, I doubt he really knew what he was letting himself in for.
Within just a few hours his total number of fans started to rise dramatically and after a few days Excavator Jack realised he was going to have make good on his promise to undertake this 942km journey in a vehicle that goes at a top speed of 4km per hour.
That’s slower than most people walk.
Originally hoping to arrive in Kuusamo for the midsummer celebrations, Excavator Jack set off from Hanko in the south of Finland on the 1st June 2010, and has spent 29 days, over 238 hours of driving time, sitting in his mini excavator, driving up the roads of Finland.
Excavator Jack Becomes A Celebrity
His journey has made him somewhat of a celebratory in Finland with the mini excavator company with CE Rental, the importer of Sunward excavators for Finland, providing him with the excavator and it’s maintenance and the media following his journey.
Excavator Jack To Arrive After Midsummer
The media attention and need to stop and give interviews so often has meant that Jukka didn’t make it for midsummer. However he is scheduled to arrive in Kuusamo at 6pm this evening, 29th June 2010, just a few days later than planned. We will be celebrating Excavator Jack‘s arrival in Kuusamo with a party in the main square and an after party at the Sokos Kuusamo hotel.
You can watch stages of Jukka’s journey that he’s broadcast via Bambuser over the last month.
