Ruka Accommodation: Hotel, Cabin Or Apartment?
Ruka Accommodation
Kuusamo and Ruka accommodation comes in the form of hotels, apartments and log cabins. But which one should you choose?
Ruka Accommodation – Which type is for you?
Let’s take a quick look at the pros and cons of each of Kuusamo and Ruka accommodation type and weigh up the pros and cons.
Ruka Accommodation – Hotels
Pros:
They are usually central, close to amenities, have good facilities, housekeeping, room service etc. There are restaurants and bars, often shops and in one hotel, Holiday Club Tropiikki, a swimming pool and spa. Hotels make for a very easy holiday where everything is taken care of for you and quite often the hotel will even have a weekly schedule of activities arranged for you to take part in.
Cons:
Lack of flexibility with meal times. Evening meal often isn’t included in the price and with no cooking facilities it means you have to either eat out or pay to eat in the hotel restaraunt which can become expensive. If you have small children with you it will mean sharing a room with them and hotel rooms, unless you opt for a suite, usually aren’t very large. Plus walls are often thin which can mean a lot of stress on parents behalf over the noise children make. If you are a large group or have older children with you, you will all be in separate rooms with only the public areas such as bars, restaurants and lobby, as a communal gathering point.
Choose hotels for your Ruka Accommodation.
Ruka Accommodation – Apartments
Pros:
Usually central and close to amenities. Come with own kitchen for more flexible meal times but are also often owned by, or run in partnership with, a hotel where evening meals and breakfasts can be arranged for a cost. Allows families and small groups to be in the same apartment but have own bedrooms, or allows larger groups to have separate own apartments but in the same block so each family gets their own privacy. They usually come with their own sauna.
Cons:
Apartments are usually in blocks and this can mean having close neighbors sometimes above and below as well as next door. Less convenient than staying in a hotel with no room service or restaurants in the same building. Cooking own meals can be a chore on holiday and of course you have to buy the food and carry it to the apartment and keep it clean yourself. Apartments, generally speaking, sleep only up to 6 or 7 guests with two of those beds being a pull out sofa bed, so not great for large groups.
Ruka accommodation 2-4 person apartments
Ruka accommodation 4-6 person apartments
Ruka accommodation 6-8 person apartments
Ruka Accommodation – Cabins
Pros:
Quite locations away from the hustle and bustle of centre, close to bus stop (free to use if you have a ski lift pass) for getting to the village and ski slopes. Are self catering so you have the convenience of eating when you want, what you want, come with sauna and fireplace. Like apartments, allows people to have own bedrooms but be in the same cabin and have central lounge and kitchen etc and come in a large range of sizes to suit most groups.
Cons:
Cabins are, unless you pay a large sum of money, located a good 20 to 30 minute walk from the centre of the village (generally speaking) and the bus service only runs once an hour and for those without a ski lift pass, costs 4€ for adults, 2€ for children to use each time.
