Reindeer and Snowmobile Safari

Drive snowmobiles to the reindeer farm near Ruka and then take a reindeer sleigh ride. Hot juice or coffee by the fire, and then drive your snowmobiles back to the starting point.

Ice-fishing and Snowmobile Safari

Transfer with snowmobiles to Lake Petäjälampi, where everyone gets their own ice fishing rod to fish with. Warm up with a hot juice and sausage to grill by the fire in a warm wilderness cabin and then transfer by car back to the starting point.

Husky Safaris

Snowmobile and Husky Safari

Transfer with snowmobiles to the wilderness camp. Ride on a sleigh pulled by huskies. Coffee or tea is served in a warm wilderness camp. We grill sausages by the campfire. Transfers back with snowmobiles.

White Water Rafting

Family Route:

This route goes through 7 rapids, grade I to III, spread out along otherwise tranquill sections of river and lake which are crossed with the aid of an outboard motor afixed to the boat. Suitable for aged 5 and up and takes about 2 hours in total.

Wild Route:

This route starts in the village of Juuma and goes through several rapids from grade I to IV, from easy to quite tricky and getting wet is guaranteed. The route travels through the Oulanka National Park, a beautiful peaceful area full of birds, animals and rare plants.

Duration: 3-4 hours
Length of journey: 10 km (6,2 miles)

Tour rating: Demanding (to attend the safari you have to be in good physical shape), age limit 18 years, rapid grading I-IV, vertical drop 80 metres

Long Route:

This route incorproates the above Wild Route, passing through several grade I to IV rapids and then continues down the gentle flowing river through the beautiful and seldom visited areas of the Oulanka National Park stopping just short, 1.5 miles, of the Russian border.

From Kiutaköngäs to Jäkälämutka
River Oulankajoki flows through the Oulanka National Park in a wide valley. Upstream, the river is flanked by beautiful wild flower meadows and lush vegetation. Downstream the river basin finds its way in a valley of high sand banks. There are numerous species of birds and rare vegetation (such as calypso and lady’s-slipper orchid) here. This is an unguided trip.

Over Night Trip

Canoeing route Savilampi – Kiutaköngäs – Jäkälämutka
A 32km journey down the river Oulanka from Savilamp. You choose which of the free to use huts you wish to stay sleep in and make your own way down the river having to carry your boat a couple of time to pass two large rapids. This is an unguided trip.

Guided Mountain Bike Safari

Nissinvaaran trail

A 24.5km guided biking trip that takes you through forest, along road and through the small rustic village of Nissinvaara, with plenty of breaks for refreshments. end the day with a wood burning suana, a refreshing dip in the lake and a smkoed fish dinner around the campfire.

Fishing safari in lake Petäjälampi

The deep waters of lake Petäjälampi, near Hotel Holiday Club Tropiikki about a 20 minute drive from Ruka, are the natural home to its inhabitants of pike and perch but also home to grayling, powan and salmon which were introduced to and thrive in this lake.

The easiest way to begin a family fishing trip is to hire fishing equipment from Kuusamo Safaris, a fishing rod for the younger ones and spinning rod for grown ups.

Price includes: Rowing boat, life jacket, fishing or spinning rod, licence to fish on the lake Petäjälampi, insurance and VAT
Additional charge: Have your catch smoked for you 5€ /fish (the fish are cleaned, prepared, smoked and packed to take away with you)

Elk, brown bear and wildfowl hunting with a hound

NOTE! Bear and moose hunters are required to pass a shooting test and they have to have an valid hunting examination. The person also has to have a certificate which states that he has a licence for carrying the firearm in question. More information about hunting and shooting laws.
