@Bumbling,

From what I can gather, none of the companies are "snow white" but Nestle is by far the most ruthless and the biggest.

My eldest daughter was born in France, at a clinic that obviously had some kind of deal with Milupa as the doctor was more like a used car salesman, such was his hard sell on Milupa products!

Good post!

When people ask why I believe the boycotters over Nestle, my response is that I've no first hand evidence from either side, but consider this - Nestle is the worlds biggest food conglomerate, with huge budgets both for PR and Legal representation.

If Baby Milk Action made a single untrue claim that harms sales then Nestle's lawyers would quite rightly have them up in court.

You don't hear a lot about the boycott in the mainstream printed/television media - true, but stop to count how many adverts Nestle place, and you might get an incline why! A few years ago just before Christmas they sued the Ethiopian government for something like £3 billion at a time of famine, you'd expect the British tabloids to have a field day with references to "scrooge" but in actual fact most chose to ignore it, and a few of the more serious papers gave it a tiny amount of coverage - nobody wants to piss off a major advertiser!

To those that say them boycotting won't make any difference, you might as well say there is no point in voting in the election since your vote won't actually make any difference - which is true, but if everyone thought like that...

The thing to remember is that Nestle's profits are built entirely on people buying their products. By not buying them yourself (I estimate that if I didn't boytcott Neslte products I'd be giving them about $500 a year in factory gate prices - I probably don't give that much to charity in a year, I'm certainly not going to support them) and spreading the word, in time they might actually have to do the right thing - and more importantly it would send out a message to other corporations that wrongdoing WILL affect your bottom line, regardless of how much you spend on advertising.

I feel your pain, one of my first learned words was - una cosa - a thing. As in "I need a thing like a ring, for a hose pipe, that you can make smaller with a screw, to join it to a tap" We eventually got to a jubilee clip - and he didn't even know the name for it in Spanish. The mix up between cojones and cojines - I think is best saved for a blog post of my own!!!

@Heather,well realy who cares who or how many someone slept with male or femaile,thats not feminism to me. maybe what we are dealing with here is the men are from Mars and women are from Venus. Which harks back to EO WIlsons socio-biology that our society roles are based on our sex. That women will break up a game they are playing to include the outsider and men won't...( paraphrasing) testosterone vs estrogen is the real difference. How many female serial killers are there? How many women perpetrate violence? AND why do we not castrate men for crimes of sex...(pedophiles, rapists etc) and alter their testosterone levels for crimes of violence??? Why did men have to invent GPS so they don't have to ask for directions... Why do they have to practice somthing before they go out in public to perform it? This here is huge debate you have started... keep it up and take it on. !!!!! You rock these questions.
