Learn To Drive On Ice Near Ruka

Juha Kankkunen is 23 time International Rally winner and four time World Rally Champion and owner of the Juha Kankkunen Driving Academy near Ruka in Kuusamo, Lapland.

The Juha Kankkunen Driving Academy has two amazing snow covered racing tracks where you will learn how to control a car at high speed on an ice covered racing circuit in a choice of 15 different vehicles including a 2009 Subaru Imperza WRX STi Group N spec rally car.

None of the cars are fitted with ESP or ABS and all of the cars computers have been programmed to turn off the electrical safety assistant. You will be trained in the art of rally driving techniques, how to drive at high speed on an ice circuit, how to drive racing lines, cornering, braking & braking points and obstacle avoidance amongst other things.

This is not driving for the faint hearted.

You will learn

Participants will learn the special skills required for high speed driving on demanding surfaces and in difficult weather conditions; snow, heavy rain and limited visibility.You will also learn better control of 4-wheel drive vehicles.

Basic principles of Sport & Fast driving
How to control a vehicle in challenging situations
Control of a vehicle at high speed, driving on slippery surfaces, driving techniques of 4-wheel drive vehicles, optimal use of electrical car equipment (ESP, ASR and ABS) at high speed
Racing driving lines basics
Cornering, braking & braking points
The opportunity to practise driving on an ice-track and learning the techniques needed for competitive driving in races.

Cars

All training cars are new Volkswagen Golf or new Golf R with front and 4-wheel drive options, equipped with Monte Carlo type special studded winter tyres.

Training prices

First day 2200 to 2,700€ / person including VAT per person.
Second day 1400 to 1700 € / person

Prices depending on date and week day

The price includes

Subaru Full Damage Cover with 500€ personal liability
Other training cars Full Damage Cover with 400€ personal liability
Lunch, tow-car, spare cars, petrol and transportation to and from the race tracks.
Single room accommodation at Sokos Hotel Kuusamo.

Training is targeted at drivers with some experience of fast and powerful cars preferably with some racing experience in competitive motor sports classes, drivers wanting to improve driving skills in powerful cars with a personal professional instructor, racing drivers aiming at a rally career on a National or International level.
