Ruka For Kids
Family Friendly Ruka
Over the last few years Ruka has developed into a wonderfully family friendly ski resort with free use of lifts 6′s, designated safe ski areas, Sledging areas, playground, an adventure ski route with real reindeer, children’s ski school groups, a soft indoor adventure play area, kindergarten and plenty of choices on the children’s menus and play areas in most restaurants.
Skiing For Children in Ruka
In Ruka Village there is a gentle, wide children’s ski area with two lifts, one magic carpet ( a sort of conveyor belt the kids stand on that carries them to the top) and one rope drag, and children’s snow playground with an ice maze, ice steps to climb, ice blocks to run around or climb over and a sledging area at the bottom.
All of this is cordoned off from the main ski area so that the children are safe from stray skiers.
At Ski Bistro, on the other side of the hill at the bottom of the main ski area, there is another safe, wide designated skiing area with a gentle slope and simple rope drag lift that is cordoned off from other skiers.
Both of these areas are free to use, no lift pass is necessary, although children under 6 always get free use of the slopes as long as they wear a helmet and are accompanied by an adult.
Children’s Adventure Ski Run
From the Vuosseli slope the Roosa and Rudolf children’s adventure ski run (run 26 on the piste map), branches off following a tree lined path dotted with noise making machines, things to ski through, touch, stop and do as well as a camp fire and seating area for picnics and real live reindeer!
Children’s Ski School
Ruka has a wonderful ski school for children from ages 5 to 12 where they can learn to ski or snowboard (snowboard lessons start at age 8 ) in a safe, child friendly environment.
