Ruka Lift Passes
Ruka Skiing – Lift Passes
Lift passes can be bought from one of the two ski hire shops in Ruka. One is in the main Ruka Village and the second on the other side of the hill at the bottom of the main skiing area, Vuosseli.
Two kinds of passes are available in Ruka. A key card pass and a standard pass.
- A Key Card is a plastic credit card sized pass that needs only to be swiped in front of the sensor. They will work from inside an arm or breast pocket – or normal pocket if you are quite tall.
- A standard pass is made from thin card and needs to be fed manually into the machine.
Apart from 3/5 and 5/7 day passes all passes are issued as standard card ones. An upgrade to a key card pass costs 6 € payable when you purchase your pass.
Children under 6 with a ski helmet and skiing with an adult are entitled to a free Rosa And Rudolf ski pass. Parents must request this pass from the ski pass sales point. Everybody must have a valid ski pass in order to use the lifts.
Friday night-skiing is included in the price if your pass is for more than 2 days and a Friday falls in the time period it covers. Friday night-skiing (7pm-11pm) runs usually from the beginning of December until the end of April.
3/5 and 5/7 day passes – These passes enable you to ski for any 3 out of 5 days or 5 out of 7 days. The days are automatically removed from the pass when you swipe it through the machine on that day – it does not understand half days – so if you were to use it once for the last lift of the day a full day would be deducted.

Hi, I'm Heather and this is my blog and travel guide to Ruka and Kuusamo, Lapland

Hi Heather,
Love your blogs. We are coming to Ruka in a couple of weeks time for the 4th time, we own an apartment at Aurinkorinne and were wondering about the Talvijarvi lift, the main website says that is has been upgraded and is now a combined lift, how does this work? Thanks
Louise
Hi Louise, thank you for your kind words. What a great place to own an apartment! As far as I am aware the talvijarvi lift is still just a drag lift coming up to the main village – I’m not sure what they mean about combined. I haven’t used that lift yet this season but when I go skiing on Wednesday I’ll ski down there and try it out. I’ll let you know then.
Heather
Brilliant thanks – you’re so lucky seeing the Northern lights (24th Jan), we’ve yet to see them, hoping we will this year.
Louise
Hi Lousie, I went up the Talvijarvi lift today, it’s still a drag lift but its alternate buttons and Tbars, I think that’s what they mean by combined. So you can either take a button or share a T. It’s a free to use lift as well, there was no ticket machine at the bottom and it comes out right at the bottom of the front slopes near the ski shire shop and Piste building.
Yeah, we were really lucky with the northern lights, its been so cloudy this month that we haven’t seen them as much as usual. The skies are clear again today so fingers crossed they stay this way for a while and you get to see the northern lights whilst you are here!
Hi Heather,
Thanks for looking for us, can’t wait to get over to Finland – 4 weeks on Sunday!
